My Experience Learning About Possible Life Beyond Earth

I have always wondered how far away extraterrestrial life might be. While learning about space, I discovered that one of the closest places where life could possibly exist is Proxima Centauri b, an exoplanet about 4.2 light-years from Earth. It orbits Proxima Centauri, the closest star to our Sun.

I also learned that Proxima Centauri b is located in its star’s habitable zone, where conditions might allow liquid water to exist. However, scientists have not confirmed whether the planet has water, an atmosphere, or any form of life. What surprised me most was how close the planet orbits its star. Because Proxima Centauri is a small, cool red dwarf, the planet must stay much closer to it than Mercury is to the Sun. Learning about this planet made me realize that possible life beyond Earth may be closer than I once imagined.
