What Is Artificial Intelligence?
2026-07-20
An introduction to how artificial intelligence learns patterns, solves problems, and powers chatbots.

What Is Artificial Intelligence?
AI stands for artificial intelligence. It is a type of technology that allows computers and machines to recognize patterns, solve problems, and make decisions. Many AI systems learn from large amounts of training data and examples. For instance, Tesla improves its Full Self-Driving technology by studying many real-world driving situations. AI assistants and chatbots, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Siri, are trained using large collections of text and other data so they can understand questions and produce useful responses.
Today, some advanced AI systems can also act as agents. They may be able to control parts of a computer, open applications, complete online tasks, and help code websites. These systems show how quickly AI technology is developing. In the future, AI may change or replace some jobs, but it may also create new careers and help people work more efficiently.
